The mission in Turkey has come to an end
Time has flown, as it knows how to do when it is the heart that drives us to act, and if there is one thing we have rejoiced in, it is precisely the genuine humanity that comes out when everything seems lost. There were hugs and tears, held back or not, because beyond the things done to solve the material problems caused by the earthquake, our service was above all that of active presence, bearing witness to the unity that, beneath the apparent selfish indifference, runs deep and connects all of us human beings. A yoga class for the women of Ekinci, telling each other stories and imagining the future in a tent, amid laughter and hugs, the visit as far as Istanbul, the activities with the children. The seed of brotherhood has been planted, and what remains are the beautiful feelings that we will be very glad to remember, also because the work of assistance is not over just because the suffering caused by the earthquake is no longer on the news. The tremendous work of removing the wreckage of everything continues and will continue for years to come, but what matters is that we stay united, because that is our only strength and hope. The AMURT camper allowed us to stay close to the earthquake survivors 24 hours a day and, from now on, it will serve as an emergency response vehicle should other calamities occur anywhere in Europe. Heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers!
