Earthquake update: work has begun on building the showers

In Tavla the work to build the showers sponsored by AMURT has begun. Watching the work was a university student who asked our volunteers whether it would be possible to build a shower also for the small community of 60 people that formed after the earthquake on his family’s small plot of land, where the neighbors’ tents are now also hosted.

A school in Sutasi was also pointed out, which would have been glad to host the Amurt team, so the volunteers were welcomed by the physics teacher, who invited the other English teachers to organize classes. The students were very inspired by the team’s arrival and asked a lot of questions. This is a school created specifically to support those students who are facing their final middle-school and high-school exams and who lost two crucial months of lessons because of the earthquake.

Afterwards the volunteers went to visit the director of the public health department of Mustafa Kemal University of Hatay. A truly exquisite person, who received them in the container inside the university campus that has served as his office and residence for two months. With him and Esra the volunteers found out that drinking water is scarce in Ekinci. Amurt will commit in the coming days to cooperate and try to find a solution.
