How to gain self-confidence

5 min read · Philosophy

Why a gifted person often fails to use their abilities, and how to develop self-confidence at four levels: physical, mental, psycho-spiritual and spiritual.

We often see that a person who has many talents, a lively mind, beauty, strength and health does not use all of this to the full. The qualities given by nature do not show themselves as they should, leaving the person with a feeling of inner depression. The cause is the absence of a kind of inner engine — self-confidence.

People who lack confidence develop a desire to control everyone and everything, to deny others creative freedom, and to make everything depend on themselves.

But it is impossible to do everything yourself; that leads to burnout in every area. Trusting others is very important for a harmonious life. But to be able to trust, you need to have faith and be confident in yourself.

How to develop confidence, and what characterizes this quality at each of the four levels: physical, mental, psycho-spiritual and spiritual.

  1. At the physical level, lack of confidence is rooted in the three lower A center of psychic energy in the body; seven major ones lie along the spine.: the múládhára, svádhiśt́hána and mańipura.

The múládhára cakra is the center that gives groundedness and a sense of confidence. Looking at a tree holding firmly and deeply to the earth with its roots, you can catch its feeling: "There is definitely a place under the sun for me, and I certainly have the right to exist."

A hormonal imbalance in the svádhiśt́hána cakra brings a feeling of inferiority.

An imbalance of the mańipura cakra shows itself in fears.

Basic A yoga posture held steadily and comfortably; it balances the glands and quiets body and mind for meditation., hygiene and fasting will help put the three lower centers in order (regulate digestion, put the excretory system in order, restore hormonal balance, physical strength and confidence).

  1. At the mental level, lack of confidence is caused by an inferiority complex and by fears.

If, along the path of life, a person has lost their sense of self-worth, then even if, as they say, "everything is fine" today, they will still feel guilty that "everything is fine." Such a person lacks self-worth; they believe they have no right to a good life and that everything is about to collapse. This goes together with self-disregard: "I can't, I'm not capable, it won't work out for me."

Outside support is very important for such a person. Inwardly this complex can be overcome by reprogramming your mind. The thoughts "I'm worthless," "I'm bad" need to be replaced with "I have the right to be," "I have a place under the sun," "I am an inseparable part of this world, and without me this world would not be as beautiful as it is now."

Besides the inferiority complex there is also a superiority complex. If you catch yourself feeling "I'm the top of the world," it is worth thinking: "I'm quite ordinary, I'm normal, but I'm a worthy person, and I have the right to live in this world like everyone else."

If you have an inferiority complex, then to reprogram your attitude to life you should clearly understand your strengths and your merits. Support from outside consists in constantly pointing out to the person their strength and positive qualities, which they don't want to notice. But it is important not to overpraise them. Balance is needed in everything.

Fear is rooted in the mańipura cakra: "I'm afraid of old age, afraid of being left without money, afraid of water, afraid of flying…" At the mental level, fear must always be overcome through confrontation: face the situations you are afraid of, imagine that they have already happened, and plan several options. Afraid of swimming? Go into the water little by little, learn to swim, and after a while the fear will disappear.

You accumulate experience and knowledge, and with age comes the understanding that problems can always be solved one way or another.

  1. At the psycho-spiritual level, cakra meditations help to deal with a lack of self-confidence. They strengthen the psycho-spiritual structures and give an inner sense of confidence that is projected outward. Others begin to perceive the person as a strong personality. This raises their sense of self-worth. But to prepare for cakra meditations, one should practice the basic meditation lessons regularly for about two or three years. Basic meditation develops the ájiṋá cakra, which is the controlling center of all the lower cakras.
  2. Self-confidence at the spiritual level. At the root of the Russian word for "confidence" (uverennost') lies the word "faith" (vera). Faith means trust in the cause that underlies our universe.

The universe is not a heap of matter that appeared by chance. It is a living organism that has mind and consciousness and interacts benevolently with each of its cells. The Supreme Consciousness is love and bliss, and when a person knows this not only in theory, when they have felt it in their spiritual practice and lived through this love, then they have nothing to fear. Everything that happens is governed by love, and everything has a cause. Even if today we have to go through a painful experience, that too has a cause. This approach to life is called faith.

Faith gives a healthy sense of adventure, and if a person follows the voice of their heart that they are doing the right thing, everything will work out.

You can find out whether the path you are walking is the right one only by moving along it. Feeling inspired and taking a step forward, a person sees that the world takes a step toward them and helps them in everything. And from somewhere knowledge appears. With knowledge comes faith, and then confidence. But if a person has felt inner inspiration yet stayed where they were for reasons born of fear, they will never reach confidence at the spiritual level.

Surfing is an example of gaining self-confidence. If a person has faith in and love for the ocean, they feel that the ocean is their friend. A surfer is not afraid of the waves and does not try to control them, but enjoys their power, merging with their rhythm and becoming one with the ocean.
