Fundraising campaign to support Tsunami victims
With two Portuguese people on the ground, AMURT Portugal promoted a fundraising campaign in several areas.
In addition to an online awareness campaign, several street actions were carried out, namely in Parque das Nações, Jardins de Belém and Porto.
Subsequently, an auction of original works was held at the Sintra Yoga and Meditation Center.
In the Azores, a series of parallel activities were developed, including an awareness camp. In the words of local coordinator Brígida Serrano:
"Francisco and I were busy preparing banners and materials for this weekend's show. A press release was sent to television, stadium and newspapers. The red cross assured us of its collaboration. License was also granted by the Municipal Council of Angra do Heroísmo, for two consecutive weekends, to use the central square, for the initiatives humanitarian organizations of AMURT.
We also had the pleasant surprise that the President of the Chamber gave us authorization to use the auditorium of the cultural center for free, for the AMURT benefit concert.
The idea for the camp was thought of at the last minute, I contacted the Red Cross about the idea of installing a tent for this purpose and they collaborated promptly.
I stayed in the tent all night, volunteers came to help in shifts to ensure presence at the various AMURT tents. During this week, leaflets were distributed at the Guarita Supermarket (Angra do Heroísmo) and Modelo (Praia da Vitória), as well as in the central square (Praça Velha) by these volunteers."
The following day, January 22nd, a solidarity concert took place at the Angra do Heroísmo Cultural and Congress Center. The main artist was Dada Nabhaniilananda (http://www.eternalwave.com/), musician, monk and teacher of yoga and meditation. The show also featured Diogo Cunha in the 2nd; guitar and with the special participation of Swedish jazz singer of Polish origin Jolanta Borusiewicz.
