Earthquake Assistance in Nepal

Last Saturday, April 25, in Kathmandu, Nepal, the earthquake that struck the historic city has so far claimed more than 6000 lives.

The reports received so far by the aid groups also suggest that communities surrounded by mountains are devastated and in a desperate struggle to survive.

Saturday's earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 on the Richter scale, spreading terror from Kathmandu to the small villages at the foot of Mount Everest, triggering avalanches that buried part of a base camp of foreign climbers who were preparing for the climb. At least 18 have died and 61 people have been injured so far.

We are in constant contact with Amurt in Nepal in Raitakhor, where we have one of the schools we support regularly, and we will receive news soon to keep you informed.

Amurt – Portugal has taken action, promoting a fundraising drive to help the rescue teams and those affected by the catastrophe, with the possible sending of human resources.
