Earthquake update: seismic events continue, the aid does not stop
On February 20, another seismic event struck the province of Hatay, and beyond. The Amurt volunteers, present in the area, immediately took action to understand, through the network of local organizations, the extent caused by the tremor: the fear is great, but the tents are not enough. They then decided to spend all the remaining funds to buy tents and go to Samandag, the area of Hatay most affected, thus allowing many people left without a home to have a place to sleep. They bought 45 tents and, once they arrived in Samandag, immediately got to work. “It was moving how they welcomed us, some with tears of gratitude, others with smiles showing all 32 teeth, still others in silence with a hand placed on the heart, a sign of human closeness.” – the volunteers recounted.
“It was a difficult experience, which made us fragile in the face of so much sadness. We returned toward midnight to the province of Hatay, exhausted, hungry and sleepy, but humanly renewed by the certainty that tonight at least another 270 people will sleep safely.” Our volunteers at the moment have no funds left, but they have nevertheless wagered on the good hearts of all of you, buying more tents on credit. “We will go to Iskenderun, where it is truly hard to get to because of the heavily damaged roads, and where people are isolated and in greater need of our, and your, small great material contribution and above all of human closeness and brotherhood“.
