Update from the mission in Burkina Faso
The mission in Burkina Faso continues. The testimony of Paolo Bocchi, volunteer of Amurt Casalmaggiore:
“Our contact person is the Frenchman Pierre Charron, alias Dada. I met him years ago in Ghana; he was just starting out and had been entrusted with a very tough country like Burkina Faso. We liked each other at first sight and I promised him a hand. Now, after years in Africa, he has become one of them, earning appreciation for his human qualities, his love for the weakest, and his tireless thirst for new projects to improve the living conditions of our Burkinabè brothers and sisters.
For us, having a trustworthy person like him is very important because it allows us to work with peace of mind, sure of having a serious and well-prepared counterpart to solve the many problems that may arise. He has recently started a reforestation project: so far he has fenced off 6 hectares of land and built a large well, and only a little money is missing to buy a solar pump to draw the water, which is essential for growing thousands of small plants, local species, and fruit trees such as mango and papaya, which once they reach a certain height will be planted inside the green area.
To carry out this work, Dada intends to involve the older students of Bissiri, to bring them closer to the subject of ecology. This is a pilot project which, if it works, will be followed up in other parts of the present savanna, which will turn into forest. On the second-to-last day of our stay we visited another fine project in Kiedpologo, run by an association made up only of women called “Managb Zanga”, meaning “giving together”. Amurt financed the construction of a well and they have started a cooperative which so far has obtained about 20 members for growing vegetables. Kind women, very strong and proud of their dream, which is coming true.
